Northwest Whitfield’s Success Students
Helping Out at Special Olympics

This year we volunteered our students to help out with Special Olympics Basketball. We thought it would be a great experience and it was! I was going to write an article but on of my students said it better than I ever would.
“I had fun at the Special Olympics. It was something that I won’t forget. They are really nice kids and they are very friendly too. They taught me a lot of stuff like no matter what keep pressing forward and don’t give up. They are amazing kids. Some are really smart and some were really strong, I mean really really strong!
I liked it a lot and I made a lot of friends and had a blast. Once you get to know them they are really cool to hang out with. Some of them were funny and some were mean but they all were cool to hang out with in the end.
I think it is amazing how smart they are and you don’t really know it until you meet them in person like I did. It’s really cool just to watch them play and some were really good at the games. This one boy made every shot and I thought it was neat because I couldn’t make any! I had a blast and it was exciting to do. I hope we can do it again.”

Northwest Whitfield Highs GCSA
is
Bakin’ Up Cookies for Love

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and GCSA is getting the word out in an unusual but delicious way. Northwest’s GCSA bakes the breast cancer cookie from Otis Spunkmeyer each year in order to promote awareness about this cancer and the people it affects. For every box that is purchased a certain amount it donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. GCSA students sacrifice their time and talents to bake, package, and sell these cookies at Northwest. These students not only get to enjoy these scrumptious cookies but they also get the satisfaction of working for a cause.
