Study Habits Anyone?

Ms. Currie, Northeast’s Guidance Counselor and Graduation Specialist, talked with students about the importance of developing good study skills. She provided us with ways to develop those skills. She also talked about the importance of time management. To see how we use our time, we completed a time management activity. We had to keep up with what we did for a week. We compared the amount of time we spent on school-related, work, personal, health-related, travel, out-of-school commitments, etc by finding the percentage for each activity.

Charting Your Path: High School and Beyond
Ebony Hicks, 4th year Tift County High School, Northeast Campus GCSA member, attended a student workshop sponsored by Proud Loving Individuals Giving a Hand to Teens ( P.L.I.G.H. T.) of Tifton, GA on September 19, 2009. The purpose of the workshop was to provide students with tools and information to help them make decisions for their future.

Tifton Teen Maze
Northeast Campus students had the opportunity to attend a Teen Maze on October 13-14. Each student spent about 40 minutes in the maze facing the consequences of their choices. The choices were actually randomly selected. For instance, if a student “chose” to drink, they were sent to a holding cell, finger printed, and appeared before a judge for sentencing. The choice of sexual activity in some cases led to pregnancy and child birth requiring detours into decisions about child care, application for DFCS services, or consideration for adoption. For some sexual activity led to an STD which meant a need for medical and psychological services and possibly death. The purpose of the maze is to show teens that the decisions they make now will have a long lasting effect of their lives and the lives of the people around them. At the end of the maze, students received an evaluation, a book detailing their trip through the maze, including mug shots and graduation pictures. Students also received a t-shirt. Students who reach graduation received diplomas. GCSA members and their results are pictured below. D represents died, G represents graduated, and DO represents dropped out.
