GCSA Presents Hard Core Leadership

The Georgia Career Student Association recently held its annual Fall Officer Training Conference (OTC) at the Atlanta Airport Marriott. The members were greeted during the Opening General Session by the GCSA State Officers and their presentation of Hard Core Leadership. The members heard from keynote speaker, Ryan Moran, on being part of the POSSE (be Positive, be Open, be Sincere, have Spirit, and don't be Exclusive). The members also participated in leadership breakout sessions on Friday evening, along with participating in the first Annual Chapter Banner Design Challenge and T-Shirt Design Challenge. All that hard core leadership was followed by a dance, where we all had a little fun and relaxation.

On Saturday, officers and members were back to learning how to return to their local chapters and lead the way by participating in individual officer training sessions presented by the GCSA Board of Directors.

During the Closing General Session the audience was privileged to have the 2007-08 1st Place Opening and Closing Team, Washington County High supervised under the direction of coordinator, Willie Mae Wadley, perform. The Banner Design Challenge was awarded to Newton County High, Dr. Jacqueline Pennington, coordinator and T-Shirt Design Challenge went to Francisco Morfin from Johnson High, Kathy Strickland, coordinator. We closed the general session with the Annual Battle of the Chapters. The competition was intense this year and all the teams were prepared but it came down to two teams, Johnson High and Madison County High. In the end Johnson High walked away with 1st Place and a $200 check and Madison County High received 2nd Place and a $100 check.

Congratulations to all chapters and members for your participation in all events. It is apparent that our members are “Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow”.
