GCSA Officer Prepare to leave, “Everlasting Imprints”

On June 10th the GCSA State Officers began their journey together. They arrived in Covington, Georgia for the leadership training. The lineup for this year 2009-2010 as President: Derikas Hines, Treasurer: Ka'Hillarie Pierce, Reporter: DeAnna Stovall, Historian: Takevian Boone, and Joshua Darden as the Parliamentarian. The Region Presidents consists of Christian May-Region 2, Jose Caudillo-Region 3, Oneisha Smith-Region 4, Luke Sinclair-Region 5 and Shawntrice Jenkins-Region 6. Along for the ride was the GCSA State Coordinator Mrs. Marcia Strickland, beside her was the leadership team: Mr. Wes Seabolt, Tera Austin and Terri Cross.

To begin the officers had to get well acquainted with one another. Different icebreakers helped them all bond and work together as a team. After two days of writing and saying speeches it was time for "BOOT CAMP". On Friday June 12ththe GCSA Officers and Leadership Team departed on their way to the Georgia FFA-FCCLA Center for the CTSO State Officer Leadership Conference. Besides GCSA there were 7 other CTSOs. During this particular training they received a lot of instruction and confidence in themselves and in each other. Some of the events they experienced on the agenda were presentation and communication skills, expectations of a state officer, team time, low ropes and obstacle courses and many others.

Walking away from the training on June 14 was both sad and exciting at the same time. The GCSA State Officers began their "Everlasting imprints on GCSA and its members."(-Derikas Hines)

Get onboard for an exciting year!

TERA AUSTIN OF PIERCE COUNTY HIGH IS NAMED GCSA ADVISOR OF THE YEAR

2009 GCSA Advisor of the Year is such a great honor and comes as a true surprise for me. I have been in education for 15 years and teaching CCAE/GCSA for 10 years. Looking back, God’s plan for me to be an educator is my purpose. Truly, I can say this is the most rewarding position I have ever taught.

I would like to thank my students for nominating me for this honor; it is because of them that I love my job. Students in CCAE/GCSA come from many different backgrounds. Each student has a story of his past, present and future, and I’m proud to be a part of it. My testimony to my profession is to give each student an edge on his future.

They have come a long way: first as unsure freshmen and now as a mature, successful, and ready for the world group of seniors. I thank these fine students for their dedication and for mentoring the underclassmen in the Pierce County High School GCSA chapter. I have the greatest students in Georgia, and I always tell them that graduating from high school and walking across that stage is a great accomplishment. As Zig Ziglar once wrote, “Success is not a destination, it’s a journey.” As you step off the stage, this is the time when your journey begins. My prayer for your life is that you be successful, fulfilled, and blessed in your chosen career paths.

Thanks again for the privilege to share this time to express my appreciation to be a part of such a wonderful organization.
