Mission, Goals, & Objectives
Mission
The mission of the Georgia Career Student Association, Inc. (GCSA) is to focus on helping students reach their full potential. Through participation in the Coordinated Career Academic Education (CCAE) program and/or Project Success program, students learn about the world of work and the employment skills they need to succeed. GCSA provides students integral opportunities to sharpen skills learned in the CCAE/Project Success classroom as well as in their career, technical and agricultural education courses. In addition to learning career skills, GCSA members develop confidence and maturity through meeting challenges and completing career skill projects.
Goals
- To provide services and career-related activities to student members of GCSA.
- To actively identify and pursue targeted potential students for the purpose of increased membership and participation.
- To operate as a cost-effective and efficient state organization.
- To provide leadership programs, which enhance targeted skills, as outlined in the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS).
- To provide current and effective communication to the student and professional members.
- To enlist and expand business and corporate support for GCSA programs through service and sponsorship.
Objectives
Goal 1: To provide services and programs which enhance targeted skills to student members served by GCSA.
FY/08
- Provide students with leadership and employability development activities at the Fall and State Leadership conferences.
- Provide students the opportunity to participate in competitive events held at the Region Contest and Fall and State Leadership Conferences.
- Provide students the opportunity to participate and contribute in annual community service projects.
- Provide a job fair opportunity for students.
- Provide students with information highlighting various topics for self-improvement through the association’s website.
- Inform and provide student members opportunities of participation with fellow CTSO’s (collaboratively and independently).
- Inform and provide extra-curricular activities such as GCSA Hawks Night, hockey games, and Braves games for the promotion of social interaction.
Goal 2: To actively identify and pursue targeted potential students for the purpose of increased membership and participation.
FY/08
- Seek potential student members through communication with graduation coach, guidance counselor, registrar, SST Coordinator and teachers.
- Develop promotional materials: posters, fliers, brochures, DVD’s, CD’s and web page enhancements to promote membership and inform members, parents, business and industry and alumni support.
- Provide incentives to coordinators: Recognition at State Conference by awarding certificates, special awards, and lapel pins for easy identification for “100% Participation” throughout the year.
- Provide incentives to members:
- Recognition at State Conference by providing ribbons for easy identification for chapters receiving “100% Participation.”
- Increase in the number of places winners may obtain at the region level from 1st and 2nd, to include 3rd for state competition.
- Allow current and previously enrolled students in the intervention classes to participate in competitive events.
- Highlighting a “statewide outstanding student of the month or year” to be recognized on the website.
- Recognize chapter and individual student achievements on the website.
Goal 3: To operate as a cost-effective and efficient state organization.
FY/08
- State Coordinator will provide a certified financial review to the board of directors annually.
- State Coordinator will report the financial state of the organization to the board of directors quarterly.
- State Coordinator will solicit suggestions and ideas from board members for program and operational improvements.
Goal 4: To provide leadership programs, which enhance targeted skills, outlined in the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS).
FY/08
- Mandated GCSA coordinator training and participation in New Teacher Workshops at UGA and other designated areas.
- Highlight best practices relative to conducting CTSO activities through the website.
- Provide training opportunities to coordinators by offering information to additional links (GACTE & CTAE Resource Network) on the website.
- Development of an intranet in order to provide communication between coordinators.
Goal 5: To provide current and effective communication to the student and professional members.

- Maintain an updated and current website.
- Maintain an updated and current professional database for mail outs and emails.
- Development of promotional materials annually:
- DVD’s & CD’s
- Press Releases
- Back to School Package
- Fall Leadership Package
- Fall Leadership Pre-Conference Package
- State Conference Package
- State Pre-Conference Package
- Provide annually a minimum of two regional meetings for dissemination of program and organizational updates to coordinators.
- Maintain an open door policy for professional members and school personnel to access program information.

Goal 6: To enlist and expand business and corporate support for GCSA programs through service and sponsorship.

- Encourage and solicit business members for board participation.
- Solicit businesses and industries for donations of materials, prizes and scholarships.
- Encourage regional sponsorship participation for program support.
- Produce promotional materials for solicitation of program funding.
- Obtain support for procurement of equipment.
- Obtain support for continued officer participation in a National CTSO Conference.
