In Your Schools and Community
By offering students first-hand experiences in work issues, today's VOCA provides fundamental preparation for success in life. Whether your're a student, parent, educator, community/business leader, or legislator, you can help ensure the availability of this unique vocational student organization (VSO) in your schools.
PARENTS
If you don't have a VOCA program at your child's school, talk to the principal and recommend that one be started. If there is a chapter, ask the principal or adviser how you can help to improve the chapter's appeal and get more students involved.
SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS
If you are an administrator, consider your school system's current funding and support for VSOs like VOCA. Are you giving students the opportunities they need to prepare for their futures as successful students and workers? Talk to colleagues about how VSOs are integrating academic and technology/career education.
BUSINESS LEADERS
Contact your local school system to find out how you can support VOCA in local schools. Talk to school board members about the need for effective technology/career education opportunities. You can also serve on advisory panels, organize career exploration tours, offer 'job shadowing' programs, and more.
LEGISLATORS
Evaluate current funding for technology/career education in your jurisdiction. Are your schools able to meet the needs of their students with effective school-to-career programs?
